CARD: THE TOP HAT

4 x 6 card

A Comanche warrior pausing after the Great Raid into Texas in 1840, wearing a captured top hat and frock coat over his bare chest, which ironically boasts a Peace Medal. To avenge a bitter massacre by the Texans, Comanche war chief, Buffalo Hump raised a huge war party of over 1000 warriors and raided deep into Texas, burning and pillaging. This costume was worn in “Comanche Moon,” the prequel to Lonesome Dove.

Based on an original 16 x 12 oil on canvas by Cathy Smith.
